wartling and all
For a while now, we’ve been going to a few
select places in England and France to shop for Painted Porch.
But for our most recent trip, we decided to mix things up and explore
some new towns and new dealers. Once again, we found plenty of
armoires, chests, cupboards and tables, but our goal this summer
was to bring back more unique pieces —- lots of one-of-a-kinds
and furniture with original paint. Our new itinerary did not disappoint.

We began
our trip in England and flew into Gatwick. There, we rented
a car and drove about an hour south of London to a charming
village with a most uncharming name, Wartling. Our hotel, Wartling
Place, was a magnificent Georgian country house
that’s been converted into a superb bed and breakfast.
As if staying in the heart of Sussex weren’t great
enough, having an innkeeper with a passion for English and
French country antiques made Wartling Place even more perfect.
Her recommendations for dealers in the area were flawless.
