next stop, avignonTrain travel in Europe is far more sophisticated than in the United States. (Larry spent more than forty years taking the Long Island Railroad and if it was half as fun as riding France’s TGV, he might still be in the intimate apparel business!) We boarded the TGV, France’s luxurious high-speed train, in Paris and headed for Avignon. The top speed on the “Tay-Zhay-Vay” (as they say) can be around 180, but you’d never know it because the ride is so smooth. Looking out of floor-to-ceiling windows, we sat for three hours and watched as the gorgeous French countryside streaked by until we reached Avignon. It’s hard to describe just how beautiful the Gare D’Avignon is. With a white steel skeleton and windows everywhere, the TGV train station is such a modern wonder that you almost don’t want to leave it. Almost.
